Athletes from Bermuda competing within the Olympics have not received a medal in 45 years.
That drought ended Tuesday when Flora Duffy received the nation’s first-ever gold medal when she positioned first within the Olympic girls’s triathlon.
In response to the Related Press, Bermuda is the smallest nation ever to win Olympic gold — due to Duffy, 33.
Duffy mentioned the medal was “larger” than her, and she or he hopes to “encourage the youth of Bermuda and everybody again house that competing on the world stage from a small island is admittedly doable.”
The final medal was clinched in 1976 when Clarence Hill received bronze in heavyweight boxing on the Olympic video games in Montreal.
